Attorney

Maria is a litigator and appellate lawyer who represents businesses and individuals in a variety of disputes in federal, state, and administrative courts. Maria’s business litigation practice includes representation of businesses and individuals in contract disputes, shareholder and partnership disputes, and cases involving claims of breach of fiduciary duty and other business torts. Maria also has a depth of experience in ERISA litigation, advising on complex disability and life insurance matters, and she has won summary judgment on disability benefits decisions. Maria is committed to understanding each client’s unique business goals and priorities, collaborating closely with clients to craft solutions that avoid unnecessary litigation and expense whenever possible. She is recognized for her responsiveness, collegiality, and creative, big-picture approach to litigation.

Maria’s appellate advocacy is extensive, having represented clients before the Minnesota Supreme Court, Minnesota Court of Appeals, and Eighth Circuit. Maria’s background includes a clerkship with Chief Justice Natalie Hudson and Justice Margaret Chutich on the Minnesota Supreme Court.

Finally, Maria assists clients with estate planning and probate matters, as well as representing beneficiaries, trustees, personal representatives, and other fiduciaries to resolve intra-family conflicts.

Beyond her legal practice, Maria is actively involved in the community, serving on the Community Board for St. Francis Regional Medical Center and the University of Minnesota Law School’s G.O.L.D. Alumni Council. She is also a dedicated pro bono attorney for the Advocates for Human Rights, through which she represents a number of clients seeking asylum in the United States.
